A Child-like View
Many of you might recall playing, “Red Light, Green Light” as a child. A group of kids would assemble in a line during recess with one child assigned to be the ‘traffic light.’ This child would stand with their back to a line of kids and remain about 20 feet away. When the traffic patroller shouted, “Green Light!” everybody would swiftly run towards them.
However, if the traffic patroller shouted, “Red Light!” everyone would freeze without motion and the patroller would check for movement. Any kid caught moving would need to return to the starting point line and lose their momentum.
The objective of the game was to beat your opponents by reaching the patroller, tapping them on the shoulder, and becoming the next ‘traffic light.’
Similar to this memorable childhood game, COVID-19 essentially creates a “Red Light, Green Light” game with our lives. This is evident when looking at the overall timeline to date. Businesses and institutions would open up, receive a positive test or diagnosis, and close back down.
As an employee, it can be hard to define COVID-19, recognize the symptoms, and employ safety measures to ensure wellness. Employees in every industry are susceptible to contracting the virus, whether at home or work.
What are some of the actions to take to ensure safety?
When is it right to return to work?
What will my employer do if I contract the illness?
These are just some of the questions that employees are asking around the globe. Here are a few actions you can take to yell “Red Light!” and put a stop to the COVID-19 pandemic:
