Workplace Violence Training

Employers must take steps to make sure the workplace is safe. It is critical that business, labor, social, and health services, education, law enforcement, and government undertake a collaborative approach to workplace violence prevention. This course will explore four main topics: Characteristics of Workplace Violence, The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, Elements of an Effective Workplace Violence Prevention Plan, and How to Handle Violent Situations. Some 2 million American workers are victims of workplace violence each year. Workplace violence can strike anywhere, and no one is immune.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, data shows that workplace violence is on the rise. Any threat of committing a violent action that is considered injurious, harmful, or oppressive to an individual at the work place is considered workplace violence. Workplace violence can affect and involve employees, clients, customers, and visitors.

Receiving training in ways to identify and address workplace violence should be a high priority for safety, morale, and efficient operations in any organization. All staff members should know how to identify the level of workplace violence and the reporting avenue set up by the organization. Understanding the impact that factors such as high traffic times, building layout, stressors, and worker behavior have on the potential for workplace violence allows for awareness and prevention of workplace violence.

The Workplace Violence course explains the importance of a zero-tolerance policy and ways to implement and enforce a plan for guarding against and preventing violence in the workplace. We know that professionals can be in a high-risk industry for workplace violence, so we want you to know ways to be safe and feel safe at work surrounded by your co-workers and the public.

At the end of this training course the learner will be able to:

  • Describe workplace violence and characteristics
  • Review the elements of an effective workplace violence plan
  • Address important well integrity considerations about OSHA guidelines
  • Identify different ways to prevent workplace violence situations
