Value in Taking the COVID-19 Vaccine

COVID Blog Series Post

What is a Craze in YOUR Area?

  • Merchandise?
  • Kid-Friendly Toys?
  • COVID-19 Vaccine?

Before the COVID-19 Vaccine Existed…

I remember back to my childhood a time when Cabbage Patch dolls were all the craze. Every mother had to have at least one for her little girl. Women would wait hours in line at Christmas time to get their hands on one of these dolls by Xavier Roberts.

Sometimes, when everyone wants a certain thing, the item increases in value and price. These dolls were no different. It seemed that the more people that wanted them, the more valuable they became in every retail shop.

As the craze peeked, the dolls became more widely available to the public. Looking back there is still a considerable value in these dolls – especially originals.

Applying the Same Logic for the COVID-19 Vaccine

We can apply the same logic to the COVID-19 vaccine. That is, at first, they were hard to come by and the demand was high. Today, there is still a demand, but several manufacturers have allowed them to become more mainstream.

That is, at first, regardless of the manufacturer, they were only available to healthcare workers, teachers, or first line workers. Even though the availability of the various vaccines increases daily, this does not diminish the value the shot can bring – especially to those with an increased health risk or weaker immune system.

Many experts agree that the COVID-19 virus is here to stay; therefore, there will always be value in getting the vaccine – if not for you – then for others around you.

Looking at the Stats

As of April 25, 2021 85,086,141 (25.6%) of the United States has received the 2nd dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, according to the CDC. That number is even higher for those who have received just the 1st does at this time, coming in at 138,644,724 (41.8%) of the total American population.

Therefore, we can safely deduct that 67.96 doses have been administered to date per 100 persons – again, just within the U.S. This puts the total registered population at 331,996,199.

What Do The Numbers Say?

These numbers do not seem all that earth shattering in isolation. However, consider all the ways that the virus can be spread. Several counties and jurisdictions are lessening or omitting entirely the mask mandates.

Just like in historical illnesses, we have a choice to make the virus a more commonplace and treatable illness – or not – the choice is ours.

Conclusion

It is our duty and responsibility as not only humans, but also citizens of our country and our world, to take ever precaution to keep ourselves, our family, and those around us as safe as can be. If you are sick, stay home. If you have been diagnosed positive for the illness, stay home. If you want to at least keep your family members safe, get vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine and become an advocate for others to do the same. Even if you are a relatively health person, you can still be a carrier. Remember, you are responsible for your own actions – no matter which route you choose…to vaccinate or not to vaccinate. Be sure to weigh the odds and make a choice for the sake of others.
